Perugia International Journalism Festival | April 15-19 | Perugia, Italy

Spring is in the air and has brought with it a renewed energy to the Superdesk team! Superdesk is in a very exciting place right now and we can’t wait to share it with the world. This week we will be giving a brief presentation on its capabilities at the International Journalism Festival in Perugia, April 15-19 2015. The International Journalism Festival, or #IJF15 in the hashtag, is the leading journalism event not only in Italy, but is one of the premier events worldwide.

The International Journalism Festival is unique in that it is free and open to the public, and that it takes place in venues across the ancient Umbrian city of Perugia. It’s an open invitation for attendees to listen and network with the best of the journalism world (read more in the event programme). The overall atmosphere places emphasis on informality and accessibility. It is designed to appeal to journalists, aspiring journalists and those interested in the role of media in society.

A group of Sourcefabric team members will be demoing our long-awaited Superdesk project and talking about Sourcefabric in general during a presentation on Saturday, April 18th at 9 am. Oh, and did we mention entry is free?

Although Superdesk is still under development, Perugia is a good place to unveil this early version to get feedback from attendees and generate interest in what we think is the new open source code base for journalism.

We’re excited to show off what Superdesk can do, and we’re even more eager to spend time at the festival engaging with people from the journalism and tech industry. If you are going to be there, we'd love to chat with you!

Get to know Superdesk

If you aren’t already familiar with Sourcefabric’s newest and fastest developing project, Superdesk, take a moment to get acquainted with this end-to-end publishing platform.

Superdesk is an open source, end-to-end platform for news creation, production, curation, distribution and publishing that is currently under development. This software is the open source alternative to the proprietary norms of the industry and has been built for journalists by journalists. We have partnered with Australian Associated Press, which allows us to develop Superdesk in real-life use cases and scenarios, and allows us to become well-versed in journalists’ needs and requirements.

  • Flexible Development

Because of the open source nature of the software, developers are able build on top of Superdesk to extend and develop new tools. It can be used with existing technologies and infrastructure due to its open architecture, flexibility, content APIs, and the ability to use previous investments.

  • Results

Superdesk manages content ingest, creation, archiving, distribution, management and structure of workflows, and editorial communications (comments, notes, tasks). This enables journalists to spend less time on administrative tasks, and more on their jobs: creating quality content.

  • Design

Superdesk has a clean and easy to use interface that is quick to learn and fun to use.

When will Superdesk be available?

There is no official public release date yet. Our focus for the near future is going to be on shaping the system, taking care of important details, and getting it ready for you!
