Press Release: Superdesk Analytics Module to Debut at Prague Media Point Journalism Conference

Press Release: Superdesk Analytics Module

Sourcefabric will showcase its Superdesk Analytics Module at the upcoming Prague Media Point journalism conference in Prague, on December 5-7. Developed in partnership with the Australian Associated Press, the Analytics Module is designed to help newsrooms powered by Superdesk, our open-source newsroom management software, answer key questions about their production processes.

To utilise scarce resources, editors and managers need data to assess the quality, quantity, and impact of their work. Unfortunately, while there are many tools that gauge content performance, fewer focus on the efficiency of the production process itself. The Superdesk Analytics Module provides newsroom leaders with a powerful, easy to use platform for instantly querying the output of their news operations.

Karel Petrák, a Sourcefabric project manager and former head of the online services department of ČTK, the Czech news agency, will present the Analytics Module as part of the Friday panel, “Innovative Experimentation.” He will be joined on the panel by Sven Egenter, chief editor of the Clean Energy Wire, and Jan Mikula, founder of Kairly, a journalism platform that is developing a new revenue model for content creators.

"Many newsrooms operate in the dark when it comes to production data," Petrák says. "The Analytics Module, which is built into our open-source Superdesk CMS, is designed to shed light on newsroom productivity by utilising internal data which is usually stored but not available for, say, managing editors. Data is the raw material for operational decision making, and with the Analytics Module, newsroom managers can be better informed."

Petrák added: "It is a great honour to have the opportunity to discuss newsroom metrics at one of the region’s most important journalism events."

Prague Media Point brings together reporters, editors, scholars and communication practitioners to brainstorm solutions to industry challenges. The theme of this year’s conference is “What’s Working,” and speakers will explore projects, tools and programs that are positively impacting journalism “beyond the success stories of the big, well-funded players in the United States and Western Europe.” Panelists and exhibitors include journalists from The Guardian, BBC World Service, Oxford University, Google, Deutsche Welle, ČTK and many others.
