Meet us at RightsCon

RightsCon takes place March 3-5 in Silicon Valley. Hundreds of leaders from the areas human rights, business, technology and government around the world will meet to help advance technological solutions to human rights issues.

Sourcefabric will be participating in the discussion, with Douglas Arellanes speaking about citizen journalism and how @Verdade newspaper is using Sourcefabric's Citizen Desk tool to help monitor elections in real time in Mozambique.

"Sourcefabric is a non-profit, non-governmental organization with one foot in the world of media and one in the world of technology. Our involvement in both media and technology also means that we can provide an interesting perspective when it comes to the discussions about rights that are going on in parallel to our work. More and more frequently, we are finding that there is an intersection between rights, technology and media, and we can contribute a lot there," Arellanes said.

Other themes on the program at this year's RightsCon include:

  • Measuring and preventing risk in the ICT sector
  • Tech solutions for human rights challenges
  • Innovations in digital rights
  • Internet governance reform
  • Restoring rights in the age of surveillance

Among the many speakers are:

  • Harvey Anderson, Senior Vice President Business and Legal Affairs, Mozilla
  • Jillian C. York, Director for International Freedom of Expression, Electronic Frontier Foundation
  • Ross LaJeunesse, Global Head of Free Expression and International Relations, Google
  • Colin Crowell, Head of Global Public Policy, Twitter
  • Joanna Varon Ferraz, Center for Technology and Society/Fundação Getúlio Vargas, Brazil
  • Larry Stone, President, Group Public and Government Affairs, British Telecom (BT)

We hope to see you there!
