Developing Fallback Playlists with the Airtime community

Broadcasters talk about their own Airtime customizations in our forum. Some go as far as to post their solutions and code modifications to help one another. But often it doesn't go further than that.

Getting back to the core!

It is time to put these customizations back into Airtime! It will benefit the entire community and oftentimes these hacks are frequently requested features! It also helps our core development team offer sought-after features more rapidly. In order to get this process started, we decided to offer a public Google Hangout to share solutions for creating fallback playlists.

Community develops inventive solutions

Fallback playlists are something that the Airtime team have not developed yet, but some of our community members have gone ahead and built some great options. This feature is very important for stations in the situation of dead-air, to automatically trigger a selection of music or other content.

Going live with Google

Last night we went live with Google's Hangouts On Air function, and now the video is online for you to watch. We brought together some of the amazing radio stations using Airtime to discuss their solutions. We had NTS Radio, Resonance FM, Charles Buchler who joined us a few weeks back at Radio Hack Day in Berlin as well as members of Basic.fm Dominic and Craig and our forum manager Albert FR from France!

The Google Hangout was an opportunity for us, the developers, to show the community around the Airtime code-base and give them confidence to start hacking on Airtime. Ultimately, we would like to come to some general consensus on what would be the best implementation of fallback playlists and have the community work together to bring it back into Airtime.

This will hopefully be the first of many collaborative projects with the Airtime community!
